Frequently asked questions
Short answers about honesty, setup, pricing, and privacy. If something is missing, write us at [email protected].
Why would guests be more honest with a QR code than with my waiter?
Because nobody is looking at them. Face‑to‑face, guests avoid conflict — "everything was great" is the easy, polite answer. A QR code takes away the social pressure: no eye contact, no staff standing at the table, no way to trace the answer back to them. That's the single reason TapTell works where a comment card or a waiter question doesn't.
Do guests have to install an app or create an account?
No. They scan the QR code with their phone camera, the survey opens in the browser, they tap a rating, and they're done. No account, no download, no email required.
Do I need any special hardware?
No. A small sticker on the table, a table tent, or the bill folder is enough — guests scan with their own phone. If your POS system supports a custom receipt footer, you can also put the QR there; most modern systems (Orderbird, Lightspeed, SumUp, Vectron, ready2order) do. But you don't need a POS integration to start.
How long does a rating take?
About a minute. One to five stars, selectable tags, an optional comment, and they're done. The fewer obstacles, the more answers you get.
How quickly can I get started?
Sign up, print one QR code, drop it on the first table. That takes five minutes. The first honest rating usually arrives the same shift.
Is TapTell GDPR compliant?
TapTell is designed for GDPR-conscious use. The rating page requires no guest account or contact details and uses no marketing trackers. A necessary language preference may be stored locally; technical connection data and a short-lived IP hash are processed for delivery and abuse prevention. Dashboard data is hosted in the EU.
What does it cost?
The Free plan is actually free — 1 Location, ratings, trend, direct guest categories and the first 30 visible feedbacks per calendar month are included, no credit card and no time limit. Guests can still submit after the cap; those extra responses are stored and unlock after Pro. Pro costs €15 per month per Location or €149 per year per Location and adds summaries, AI category filters, priorities, weekly report and email alerts. 30 days free on Pro, no credit card required to start.
Does it work for a café or a bar, not just a restaurant?
Yes. Anywhere guests order, consume and pay, TapTell works. Cafés and bakeries usually go for a single QR per counter; bars print it on the receipt; hotels put it in the room‑service folder as well.
How do I join the public beta?
TapTell is available for Web, mobile, and desktop. Open the browser version here: Web app, or choose your platform on the Download page.
Can I use TapTell on my phone?
Yes. You can use the Web app in your phone browser or the native Android/iOS apps for checking feedback and plan status on the go.
What languages does TapTell support?
The owner interface is available in 15 language variants. The guest questionnaire supports additional languages; AI analyses and automated emails are currently generated in German or English.
Can my staff see each other's ratings?
TapTell currently provides one owner account per workspace. Separate staff accounts, invitations and role-based permissions are not available yet; do not share the owner login.
What's the difference between Free and Pro, and what happens after the trial?
Free keeps 1 Location, ratings, trend, direct guest categories and the first 30 visible feedbacks each month. Over-cap guest responses are stored, hidden from the Free dashboard and stats, and unlocked once Pro starts. Pro adds the AI layer on top: summaries, AI category filters, priorities, weekly report and email alerts on critical feedback. If you start the 30-day Pro trial and do not add a card, TapTell simply drops back to the Free plan — no new billing, nothing cancelled, all your data stays.
